I saw this blog post about people questioning whether or not Barack Obama can become president of the United States of American because it is being questioned before the Supreme Court as to whether or not his Hawaiian birth certificate was forged. Well, I’m not here to question the legalities of a forged document, but I want to point out that the law says that in order for a person to become president of the United States of America, they must be natural born citizens. It does not say you must be born on US soil. In fact, Barack Obama’s opponent in the race for president, Senator John McCain was not even born in the United States. He was born in Panama.
I brought this up because I also wanted to point out that it is possible for a Canadian to become president of the United States as long as he is born of parents who are US citizen at the time of his or her’s birth. This person would also have to live in the states for a period of 14 years.
